The short version

We collect a small amount of anonymous usage data — how often the app is opened and which in-app prompts have been shown to you — so we can understand how the app is used and improve it. We do not collect anything that identifies you, your bills, or your tip amounts. The numbers you type into the calculator stay on your device.

What we collect

When you open the app, the following anonymous data is sent to and stored on our backend (Google Firebase):

A random, server-generated anonymous identifier assigned to your install. It is not linked to your name, email, phone, Apple ID, Google account, or any other personal information. If you delete the app and reinstall it, a new identifier is created and the old one is left detached.
The date and count of each app open (cold start). For example: {"2026-05-12": 3} means the app was opened three times on that day.
Your device platform (iOS or Android) and the app version and build number you’re running.
Whether the in-app review prompt has been shown to you, when it was shown, what triggered it (e.g., after sharing a result), and your response — “Yes”, “Not really”, or dismissed.
Whether the in-app tip prompt has been shown to you, when it was shown, and your response — “Tipped” (with the tier identifier, e.g. tip_jar_199) or “Dismissed”. The actual amount paid is not collected by us; only the product tier you selected.

That is the entire dataset.

What we do NOT collect

No name, email address, phone number, or postal address
No bill amounts, tip percentages, split counts, or any of the numbers you enter into the calculator
No location data
No contacts, photos, or device files
No advertising identifiers (IDFA / GAID)
No third-party advertising, marketing, or attribution SDKs
No crash-reporting SDKs

Where the data is stored

The anonymous usage data described above is stored in Google Firebase (Cloud Firestore and Firebase Anonymous Authentication). Google acts as a data processor on our behalf. Firebase’s own privacy practices are described at https://firebase.google.com/support/privacy

The data is held in Google Cloud’s us-central region.

What stays only on your device

Your bills, tip percentages, rounding choices, and any calculation history are stored locally using your device’s standard preferences and never leave the device.
If you delete the app, all of this local data is deleted with it.

In-app purchases

In-app purchases (the optional “Tip the developer”) are processed entirely by Apple’s StoreKit on iOS and Google Play Billing on Android. The store receives the purchase details — we do not. We have no access to your payment information, billing address, or any other purchase-related personal data.

When a tip purchase completes successfully, we record only the product identifier of the tier you selected (for example, tip_jar_199) against your anonymous identifier. The actual amount paid and any payment information are not recorded by us.

App Store / Play Store aggregate data

Apple and Google provide us with aggregate, anonymous statistics through App Store Connect and the Play Console (such as total downloads, impressions, and crash counts). This data is collected and managed by the stores, not by this app, and contains no personally identifiable information. You can opt out of sharing this data with developers in your device settings:

iOS: Settings → Privacy & Security → Analytics & Improvements
Android: Settings → Google → Ads (Opt out of Ads Personalization)

Data retention and deletion

The anonymous usage records described above are kept indefinitely for product analytics. Because the identifier is anonymous and not linked to your identity, we ordinarily have no way to find an individual user’s record. If you would still like your record removed, email us with the approximate date you installed the app and we will do our best to identify and delete it.

Uninstalling the app stops any further data collection from your device.

For users in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, and Türkiye, the legal basis for processing this anonymous usage data is legitimate interest in understanding and improving the app. The data is anonymous and contains no information that identifies you personally.

Children

This app does not knowingly collect any personally identifying data from anyone, including children under 13. The app is suitable for all ages.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the “Last updated” date above will be updated. Continued use of the app after changes means you accept the updated policy.
